Mental Health OT practice based in Wanneroo
Older Adult Mental Health Occupational Therapy (OT) is all about seniors' mental health and the specific transitions of this age and stage of life. The symptoms of mental illness and later-life challenges can limit or create barriers to optimal living and Mental Health Occupational Therapy has a unique functional approach to supporting recovery, maintaining independence, empowering choice, promoting mental wellbeing and positive ageing. Mental Health Occupational Therapy sees therapeutic change and personal transformation as been enabled by both talking therapy and through activity engagement. Mental Health OT supports people to live active and rewarding lives through participation in activities that are personally-relevant, align with their potential and preferences and give meaning and purpose to life.
Welcome to Older Adult Mental Health Occupational Therapy.
My name is Suzanne and I am a Senior Mental Health Occupational Therapist (OT). I have over 25 years experience working in various adult mental health settings, with a range of mental health conditions and life challenges. I also have extensive experience in older person's mental health and for the past 16 years, I worked as the Senior Occupational Therapist in a Specialist Older Adult Community Mental Health Service in the northern suburbs of Perth.
I have a particular interest in later-life depression, anxiety, age-related transitions, and enabling seniors to understand and find strategies to better manage these challenges.
Reaching out to seek help for a mental health concern can be uncomfortable and confronting. I focus on making the process as supportive as possible for you by bringing a calm, open, sincere, gentle, warm, understanding, compassionate, person-centred and professional approach to therapy.
I am registered with AHPRA, an endorsed Better Access to Mental Health Provider and a Member of OT Australia.
Getting older brings many challenges such as health issues, loss of independence, bereavement, retirement, financial stress, a lack of purpose, social isolation, carer stress and changes in living arrangements. Mental Health Occupational Therapy can support you with navigating these later life transitions.
Being low in mood, anxious, stuck, out of sorts or not yourself are not a normal part of growing old - they are signs that you're not doing as well as you should be. Mental Health Occupational Therapy can support you with strategies to manage depression, anxiety and other psychological and life concerns.
Mental Health Occupational Therapy provides a range of therapeutic, activity-based and lifestyle interventions to promote mental wellbeing, healthy living, positive ageing and quality of life.
Your mental health is every bit as important as your physical health. Left untreated, mental health problems can impact your emotional wellbeing, relationships, health and functioning in everyday activities. Mental Health OT provides lifestyle interventions that can better support your mental wellbeing.
Mental Health Occupational Therapy uses a distinct functional approach to support you to engage in social, leisure, physical and other meaningful activities. It is through the act of 'doing' that people learn, live, interact, create, grow, give, express and change.
Mental heath conditions can impact an older person's ability to live life well and create barriers to activity participation and optimal living. Mental Health OT assists you with problem-solving to address these obstacles and to find meaningful activities that align with your values, interests, skills and potential.
These years can be a purposeful and significant time. Mental Health Occupational Therapy supports you with identifying functional goals, activity patterns and strategies that promote your mental wellbeing and healthy ageing as well as linking you in with appropriate services and supports.
My office is based in the new, modern Allied Health Precinct in the ECU Health Centre in Wanneroo. There is ample free parking nearby, the building provides for disability access and family members/carers can enjoy a free coffee/tea whilst they wait. Transperth buses also operate in the area.
